Which is Better?
- If you're looking at lighting, the first one is better.
- If you're listening to the audio, the first one is better.
- If you get motion sickness, the first one is better.
- If you're thinking like a marketer, the first one lists more REASONS to promote, it follows a "proven template," and there's a clear call-to-action.
- ...and the first video didn't have a puppy interruption!
So, WHY on EARTH did I replace an objectively better sales video, with a poorly lit, hard to hear, off-the-cuff, wobbly, thank-you video???
Because gratitude is a more authentic message for me than pitching.
Because helping feels better than selling.
For everyone involved.
Yeah, I want the place to be packed. Of course I do.
But, as Amanda Palmer points out, it isn't about GETTING people to help. It's about ASKING them to.

So, What's the Lesson?
If you're a speaker, then don't ever get away from your authentic desire to help people.
And never get too far away from your authentic self when it comes to how you deliver that help to others.
NOTE: "Authentic" doesn't always equal "comfortable."
Growth isn't comfortable. While you're a student of the craft, trying new things won't feel comfortable. (Oh and by the way, you'll always be a student of the craft, right?)
But NOTHING can replace authenticity in this business.
